Group Dynamics and Ultimate Frisbee

For the third year running, Omada once again took its Group Dynamics workshop to the University of Worcester.  3rd year students spent the day in workshops at the University Arena with Omada MD Grant Morffew and faculty from the University of Worcester’s Institute of Sports & Exercise Science.Students are required to select and develop their teams and then over the course of several weeks compete in a sports league competition.  As is the case each year, the sport in which the students participate is one unfamiliar to most and this year that sport is Ultimate Frisbee. Grant immersed the students in the science of group dynamics, before then helping them to apply what they had learned to a team selection/draft procedure.  After the exciting draft process had finished, the students received their first Ultimate Frisbee coaching session, pictured below.  The University of Worcester is the home of inclusive sport, and the Institute is recognised for its focus on disability sport.  In the Ultimate Frisbee competition, the students are divided into teams of 9 or 10, with two players on each team being required to play using wheelchairs, regardless of whether they are regular wheelchair users or not.The Institute’s Course Director, Claire-Marie Roberts, commented, ‘We really appreciate Grant and the Omada team giving up their time to work with us on this learning module.  The students appreciate the real world perspectives Grant brings and the opportunity to hear from an expert in this field. It is consistently rated as one of the most popular sessions by our students.’IMG_7888
