London 2012: Where did it all go right?
Close to 40 executives turned up at St John Restaurant in Smithfield yesterday morning to hear Sarah Weir speak at the Omada Breakfast Brief on the topic 'London 2012: Where did it all go right?'Our very own Grant Morffew kicked off the Breakfast Brief, recounting how in the Summer of 2011 Omada had brought 19 executives from a long standing client to London to spend a week learning from other industries and organisations and developing a common mindset around the theme of 'Excellence without Extravagance'. It was that theme that led Omada to bring those same executives to work the line at St John Restaurant, consistently rated among the Top 50 Restaurants in the world and personifying 'Excellence without Extravagance', and later that week to visit Sarah Weir OBE, then Head of Art & Culture at the Olympic Delivery Authority, and her colleagues in Stratford.Sarah piqued everyone's interest at the Breakfast Brief as she recounted how creative arts had impacted community engagement during the construction phase and the Games experience itself. She also shared a little of the plans for the future of the Olympic Park and the challenges faced by The Legacy List as it seeks to further the transformation of East London through a focus on arts, culture, education and skills.Judging from the comments, emails and calls received immediately after the Breakfast Brief it seems that the theme, topic and indeed Sarah herself were all big hits. Here's just a few of the comments received:“What a great event, thank you, and what an interesting venue - the Excellence without Extravagance theme in that setting certainly provided food for thought (sorry, couldn’t help myself!)”“Sarah gave a very insightful, entertaining and interesting presentation and I liked the Excellence without Extravagance theme.” “Wouldn't it be great to really crystallise out the lessons from the Olympics to drive engagement and cultural change in business! If you could bottle the mind-set of a games-maker and feed it to a banker in substitute for their bonus.....”“Sarah's presentation was a great balance of engaging and thought-provoking topics and I enjoyed having the chance to speak to her beforehand.”Thank you to Sarah and everyone who attended for making this a great Breakfast Brief. We'll be sure to post news of the next Omada Breakfast Brief as soon as details are confirmed. To read more about The Legacy List go to www.thelegacylist.org.ukYou can also read about Sarah's career in The Telegraph's Women's Business section this week. www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-business/9699757/Sarah-Weir-My-career-path-has-been-nerve-wracking-but-never-dull.html
